Introducing Pips NYT

On August 18, 2025, New York Times Games officially launched Pips, a brand new daily puzzle game. Pips NYT is a logic and number-based puzzle game with dominoes as the main mechanic, as opposed to the word-based puzzle games favored by NYT such as Wordle, Connections, and Strands. This game provides a novel twist for puzzle enthusiasts who enjoy logic, strategy, and problem-solving.

Domino-Based Gameplay

The objective of Pips NYT is to arrange a set of dominoes on a grid. Each domino has two sides and dots (dots) that range from 0 to 6, just like regular dominoes.

Color-coded zones and conditions

Each colored zone on the grid represents a specific condition. These can be simple mathematical constraints like:

  • Greater than (>3)
  • Less than (<13)
  • Equal to (=7)

You must strategically arrange the dominoes so that their values meet all the requirements of the area to solve the puzzle.

Multiple Difficulty Levels

Every day, Pips provides three levels of difficulty:

  • Simple—just a few small squares and dominoes
  • Medium-sized puzzles with more difficult circumstances
  • Hard squares, which can be finished with up to 16 dominoes

This hierarchy allows players of all skill levels to find a challenge that fits their capabilities.
